Wednesdays are universally known as the hump day--after all Thursday nights are like Friday-Eve. What better way to look forward to the upcoming weekend and overcome a little mid-week melancholy than with some tunes from Matt and Kim.
The upbeat indie pop/dance duo out of Brooklyn, NY made a name for themselves with their 2006 track "Yeah Yeah" off their self titled debut, and are once again causing a stir with their new single "Daylight," off of their upcoming album Grand.
Tunes:
Matt and Kim - Daylight
Matt and Kim - Yeah Yeah
Matt and Kim - Verbs Before Nouns

A trailer has come out for Sunshine Cleaning, the new film from the producers of Little Miss Sunshine. The general plot seems to be about a woman who enlists her sister to start a crime-scene clean up business to help solve her financial woes. The cast features Amy Adams (Talladega Nights, Charlie Wilson's War) in the starring role, Emily Blunt (Devil Wears Prada), Steve Zahn (Saving Silverman, Strange Wilderness) and Alan Arkin most recently known as the heroine overdosing grandfather from Little Miss Sunshine.
Once "The Crane Wife 3" by the Decemberists started playing towards the end of the trailer I was sold, but the film does look promising.

Today's new music drop features a mash-up of the Ting Tings "Shut Up and Let Me Go" by The Hood. It comes off their new Mixtape Volume Three and could be one of their best mashups. Next up is a remix of "Lost" by Coldplay which features none other than Jay-Z. HOV's flow that I felt was mediocre at best off Viva La Vida. Finally, we've got Q-Tip featuring Eve in the All About the Benjamins sampling party track "Gettin' Up." Enjoy.
Tunes:
The Hood - Shut Up American Boy (Estelle Vs. Ting Tings)
Coldplay feat. Jay-Z - Lost
Q-Tip feat. Eve - Gettin' Up
After rewatching Sunday's episode of Entourage I'd have to say it's the best episode in a long time. After weeks of filler episodes only notable for Drama's deterioration into a whiny ass-hat, and guest appearances--Giovanni Ribisi, Lukas Haas, & Bow Wow to name a few--the plot finally went somewhere.
The episode also featured a trio of good songs, most notably Radiohead's "Fake Plastic Trees" during the semi-emotional goodbye between Vinny and Ari. I hadn't listened to "Fake Plastic Trees" in a while, but it really is an amazing song and Thom York's vocals are nothing short of incredible. I threw in a bonus "Bangers + Mash" off 2007's In Rainbows Bonus Disc.
Tunes:
Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees
Radiohead - Bangers + Mash
This story just made me smile. A Swedish priest in the town of Strangnas resigned today after a parish computer caught a virus from the porn sites he had been frequenting. When asked to comment on his activities the priest stated he spent "a lot of time at work viewing pornographic websites."
Seriously? He was removed for this? Priests here in America are allowed to fondle little kids like they are the King of Pop and this guy has to resign for watching porno at work? I'd be willing to wager that 3/4 of the people I know probably sneak a peak at a boob or two at work on a daily basis.
If more priests had this guy's sensibilities I might start going to Church.

If Lala.com has it's way we might very well see the mp3 go the way of the cassette tape. Lala is a new service that essentially hosts millions of songs online that are easily and legally accessible through its online player. The player looks and works similarly to iTunes so the learning curve is rather minimal.
The way it works is both simple and ingenious. Lala checks all the mp3 files you have on your computer and adds them to your free online library so you can listen to them anywhere. Where Lala stands out is in the fact that its gotten access to over 6 million songs from the Top 4 record labels and provides you access to the entire collection and you can listen to any song/album once for free. After that, you can pay just 10 cents to "buy" that tune as a web song, added to your library, which can be played an unlimited amount of times from then on available whenever/wherever you log in. That's a whole CD accessible anywhere with an internet connection for less than $2 without hogging up hard-drive space.
If you feel like purchasing a song to add to an iPod/CD, you can for just 79 cents more (the initial 10 cents goes towards your purchase of the mp3 which is nice.) Oh and as a bonus, Lala is offering 50 free songs for your online web songs library to get you acquainted with the service.

Google has released a new add-on to its Gmail service called "Mail Goggles" to prevent drunk-emailing. I shit you not. Everyone's been there--waking up at after a night of drunken festivities only to see that the kinky email you thought you were sending to your girlfriend actually got sent to your entire Philosophy class list-serv? No? No one else has been there?
Well the point is, that everyone has probably sent an email or two you've regretted at 3am on a Fri/Sat night. Well to solve the problem of drunk emailing, Mail Goggles asks you to solve a series of simple math problems to prove you are in the right state of mind. The add-on is only active late night Friday and Saturday--when you'd probably need it most--but can be customized depending on your needs.
As for drunk dialing...you're still on your own.

A new rated R trailer for the movie Role Models due out Nov. 7th is out and the movie looks hysterical. It features Paul Rudd (40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up) and Sean William Scott (American Pie, The Rundown) as two friends who get sentenced to mentor kids after getting into trouble with the law. The movie also features McLovin'--chicka chicka yeah--from Superbad. Watch the Rated R trailer below.

Sex in the shower. Sounds great doesn't it? Well what they don't show you in movies or porn (not that I would know anything about the latter) is that having sex in the shower is like trying to break dance on a tight rope. The floor is slippery, the walls are made of tile, and the only thing you can grab onto is the curtain rod which will inevitably fall off leaving you to plummet ass naked and embarrassed to the hard tub below.
Well that's where the Shower Power comes in. It's exactly what it looks like in the picture--a huge suction cup with grips for your hands. I love the slogan "Stick It. Test It. Stick It To 'Em." What's even better is the guy in the middle picture at the bottom using the Shower Power at "The Office" while talking on the phone which seems straight out of Office Space.

This is the first of what is hopefully a long line of Mixed Up Monday posts. Every Monday I'll put up some of the most popular covers/remixes currently circulating. Check em out.
The Risk One mix of the Ting Tings "Shut Up and Let Me Go" takes the catchy pop tune into a more hip-hop/dance direction. Their remix of Busta Rhymes' "Don't Touch Me"features the beat to Britney Spears' Break the Ice and is ridiculous. The Dr. Rosen mix of "Womanizer" is one of just twenty remixes available of the new Britney single, but it's one of the best I've come across. The Missy May "Party In Gear" remix is one of my latest guilty pleasures as I dance around my apartment getting ready for a night out (something about it brings back memories of Call on Me)
Tunes:
Ting Tings - Shut Up and Let Me Go (Risk One Remix)
Busta Rhymes - Don't Touch Me (Risk One Remix)
Britney Spears - Womanizer (Dr. Rosen Rosen Remix)
Missy May - Party In Gear (2-4 Remix)
Emma Forrestor, 34, of London was murdered recently by her husband after changing her status on Facebook from married to single. The couple had split up the day before and Emma had kicked her husband Wayne out of the house.
He showed up to their former home drunk and high and killed Emma with a meat cleaver and is now serving 14 years in prison. What the hell is the world coming to when you get killed because of your Facebook News Feed?

It looks like Rolling Stone got it right when they pegged MGMT as a Top 10 artist to watch in 2008. The Brooklyn based duo's psychedelic pop music has been making waves all across the online music scene of late with covers and remixes popping up almost daily. Everyone from The Kooks to The Kaiser Chiefs has been getting in on the action with the latest cover--and a pretty awesome one at that--coming from our favorite experimental lesbian Katy Perry. Check it out below along with a few originals off Oracular Spectacular in case you aren't familiar with MGMT.
The Soulwax Remix is a little too electronica for me but everyone has been raving about it so I posted it. Personally I like the Skyve Reuter one better.
Some Originals:
MGMT - Electric Feel
MGMT - Time To Pretend
MGMT - The Kids
MGMT - The Youth
Covers/Remixes
Katy Perry - Electric Feel
MGMT - The Kids (Skyve Reuter's Bunkalifony Edit)
MGMT - The Kids (Soulwax Remix)
MGMT - Of Moons Birds and Monsters (Holy Ghost! Remix)
If someone came up to you and asked you what Russia's top 3 exports are you might be tempted to say "Oil, gas, and wheat." Well, you'd be wrong. I mean, okay, technically you'd be right, but you'd be a pretty big tool for knowing that off the top of your head, so...
The real answers are obviously vodka, the AK-47, and hot, blond, tennis starlets. So what better way to chill that glass of vodka you're drinking as you sit watching Sharapova replays than with bullet-shaped ice cubes? The AK-47 ice cube tray creates 12 ammo-shaped ice cubes. Sure, bullet ice cubes are totally unnecessary but they are also totally bad-ass and at only $15 how can you say "niet?"

Kanye West has leaked yet another single off of his 808s & Heartbreak album. "Coldest Winter" is the second single to hit the net in as many days and marks a continuation of Kanye's now famous love affair with AutoTune."Coldest Winter," written about the loss of his mother last year, features Kanye belting out heartfelt lyrics over some pretty dirty tribal beats. The track is closer to "Love Lockdown" than it is to his previous albums but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Kanye himself classified 808s as "pop music," not rap so I don't know why everyone is hating on the new singles for not being harder.
At a time when hip-hop seems to be getting a little stale--is it just me or does every song feature Akon/T-pain and a remix with Weezy--808s and Heartbreak could be a much needed breath of fresh air.
What do you think of the new tracks?
